I am joined by one of the greatest athletes alive, Olympic Champion and 4x World Champion in Figure Skating, Scott Hamilton. From 1981–1984, Scott dominated his sport and won every single competition, which led, amongst others, to his induction in the Olympic Hall of Fame and an Emmy Award nomination. Scott also survived multiple rounds of cancer and now spends his time helping others get through life’s toughest challenges.

In today’s world of immediate gratification, we have become so used to immediate gratification that we have accepted it in our lives as the go-to standard.

Want to forget about how miserable you feel on Friday night? Go out and party.

Want to feel less stressed and overwhelmed? Go light a cigarette.

Want to lose weight? There’s dozens of “magical pills” promising just that.

Want to feel loved? Just post a picture to facebook and turn on your notifications to get an adrenaline rush anytime someone “likes” your picture.

Easy, isn’t it? But there’s two problems:

First of all, immediate…

It’s just before New Year’s Eve now, and everyone and their grandma is talking about goal setting. What exciting new things to accomplish, which habits to develop, and which mindset shifts to create. And all of these things are fantastic.

But what we often forget is that success at anything does not only depend on what you do, but also on what you don’t do.

We are all given the same 24 hours each day, but somehow a select few manage to accomplish so much more in a day than others in entire weeks. …

“I’ve had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened”
– Mark Twain

I love this quote because it so brilliantly describes the suffering we inflict upon ourselves through bad management of our thoughts.

Unfortunately, stress has become such a normal part of our daily lives that we learn to accept it instead of questioning it. Anywhere you go, you can find people being stressed, frustrated, and worried. Afraid of the future, for all its uncertainty. Stuck in the past, with all its misery.

We all know the devastating impact of stress on our emotions…

“Even when everything is going terribly and I have no reason to be confident, I just decide to be.” — Derek Sivers

I love this quote because it makes it so abundantly clear that no matter what happens in life, taking control of your mind is always a choice.

We often tend to think that we need to feel confident, outgoing, happy, energetic, or motivated first in order to do something. That, if something doesn’t feel right from the start, it’s not supposed to be.

But that couldn’t be further from the truth.

When you’re trying to make a change…

If you look at your life right now, what is the reason you are not as successful, happy, or healthy as you could be at this point in your life?

Apart from many excuses, there is probably just one simple reason: Lack of self-discipline. You simply don´t do what you need to do to enjoy the levels of success you want. If you think about it, what does it really take for you to be successful in all areas of your life?

Chances are, it’s no secret. Everybody knows what it takes to get in shape, but how many people…

“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us the chance to show how badly we want something.” — Randy Pausch.

This is certainly one of my all-time favorites, as it so beautifully describes the real purpose of failure and adversity.

Life is hard sometimes, and we all fail. Sometimes big, sometimes small, but we all do. …

“The purpose of our lives is to be happy.” — Dalai Lama

We all want to be happy. Period. In fact, I would argue that nearly everything we do, whether it’s working, marrying, running, or even filing our taxes is done with an overarching purpose: To feel happier.

Now, it’s not that we particularly enjoy all of these activities for their own sake, even though we might (and for some, we certainly should), but that we want to create certain feelings: Passion, excitement, purpose, love, excitement, relief, or any other emotion that makes us, well, happy.

Sadly, most people…
