How to Get Anything You Want Out of Life

In life, nearly everyone wants the same things: Make money, be healthy, have great relationships, leave an impact, etc. Everyone wants MORE of something.

The desire is there, and you dream about it day and night.

But, as Tai Lopez said,

“Everybody wants the good life, but not everybody gets the good life.”

In fact, most people will go through their entire lives, without ever realizing their full potential. They have big dreams, but they will always stay just that: dreams.

How, then, do we take our dreams and make them come true?

Charlie Munger, partner of Warren Buffet and one of the greatest minds of investing, has the answer:

“To get what you want, you have to deserve what you want.”

Too many people want things in life that they don’t deserve.

They want to be in shape but don’t train.

They want A’s in school but don’t study.

They want more money but don’t work harder.

If you want better results in life, you need to deserve them first by putting in the work. Albert Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result, and yet, most people keep complaining about their lack of results without deserving anything better.

If you want more, you need to deserve more. To deserve more, you need to work more.

In nearly any area of life, success is in direct proportion to the amount of work you put in. The harder you work, the better your results will be.

To predict your future success in life, look no further than today. How much have you worked out today? How many hours did you spend focused on important work? How much time did you spend with your family?

Humans are creatures of habit. What you do today is likely what you will do tomorrow, next week, next month, and maybe even next year. Despite having big dreams and ambitions, most people will be in exactly the same place in a year from now. They will still do the same things in the same way, expecting better results. Insane, isn’t it?

To change this, you first need self-awareness. Do you actually deserve your goals right now? Are your daily habits aligned with what you want to achieve? Most people expect results without doing any work and then complain about their lack of results. Self-awareness helps you overcome that.

The best way to do that is by simply measuring your daily output. Track the miles you are running, the hours you are actually working, and the number of times you eat a healthy meal instead of your usual fast food. When you do that, you will notice within a few days the cause of your results or lack thereof and know what you need to improve.

Putting this on paper is invaluable because it shows you everything in black and white, no excuses. You need to run 5 times a week to achieve your fitness goal but only ran 3 times? Well, now you know you are failing without having to wait a few weeks to realize your lack of results.

Tracking your progress gives you complete control over your results because everyday, you see whether you are succeeding or failing. That allows you to correct your course daily and take more action if necessary.

The next step is the hardest: Actually doing the work. I have written about the importance of choosing the right priorities and creating better habits before, so I won’t go into much detail here.

However, I have found the following quote by the Darren Hardy, former publisher of SUCCESS Magazine, to be a good mantra to live by:

“Success is earned and re-earned, and the rent is due every single day.”

No matter where you are in your life right now, you won’t stay for very long if you stop pushing yourself to become better every day. Success at anything requires daily practice, so you need to commit yourself to mastering the process of taking daily actions. Consistency is key to truly deserving and getting the results that you want, so you need to make sure that you stick to your game plan and execute it, whether you feel like it or not.
